Hello, and welcome to the website for Bonny Doon Fire and Rescue!

We respond to Fire, Medical, and other emergencies throughout the area, and assist neighboring fire districts as well. We can often be found on highway one, assisting the Davenport Volunteers (Company 37) with vehicle accidents and cliff rescues. We operate six vehicles including three Fire Engines, a Water Tender, a 4WD Rescue Vehicle, and a 4WD Utility Vehicle.

The Bonny Doon fire team was among the first firefighters on scene when the Lockheed fire started. In the initial hours of the fire our fire team members were on the front lines witnessing what can only be described as a fire storm headed our way. Within 36 hours the fire had traveled over 4 miles to within a mile and a half of our community. Fortunately the winds died down and our friends from around the state stepped in to help contain the fire with over 2200 personnel. The fire is still going on but it is no longer a threat to our community.

Boots and Radios for our Firefighters

Many people think that since we pay our taxes for fire protection that all of that money goes to our local fire department. Unfortunately that is not the case. A lot of the money that is used to maintain and operate Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire and Rescue is provided by your generous donations. During the Lockheed fire as well as the Martin fire our volunteers put their personnel lives on hold to respond to the needs of the community as they do every time one of us calls 911.

Fire team needs

  • Boots – Bonny Doon firefighters are given one pair of boots when they become firefighters through your donations. Many of the boots given to our team are no longer considered safe by current standards and need to be replaced.

  • Radios – Our radios are also out of date and cannot support local communications requirements $800 each. We need 17 new radios.

  • Breathing Apparatus and Oxygen Tanks - Our firefighters cannot enter a structure fire without adequate breating gear. We need 3 more breathing apparatus for our team.

  • Nomex fire jackets and pants – those yellow jackets and pants that our firefighters use wears out just like all clothing does and need to be replaced.

  • Trauma bags – Every one of our firefighters needs to have a trauma bag with them at all times. When we receive a 911 call we need to drive to the station to get an engine or rescue vehicle before we can help you in a crisis. If our team members carry a trauma bag in their own car they will be able to drive directly to your home whenever possible.

    • There are many more items needed to equip and maintain a fire department. Please help us by contributing to provide our firefighters the tools and safety equipment that they need to help you when an emergency happens.

    Lockheed Fire Information

    On behalf of Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire and Rescue we want to thank all of the firefighters and law enforcement personnel that helped save the community of Bonny Doon. I also wanted to thank all of our neighbors that brought food or supplies to Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire and Rescue or lent a helping hand.

    The Calfire community meeting held on August 20th povided an overview of the history of the Lockheed fire as displayed on the Lockheed Fire Map - Fire Progression Calfire will be doing ongoing fire suppression and monitoring for many weeks to come. They will also be doing restoration work to the land that was disturbed by the bull dozers to reduce erosion during our next rainy season.

    8:10 PM on 8/24/2009: The Lockheed Fire in Bonny Doon started at the end of Empire Grade Rd and now extends 4.5 miles southeast toward the Bonny Doon Community and west to Swanton Rd. One outbuilding was damaged and 13 destroyed though no homes have been lost. The fire consumed a total of 7817 acres and containment is 100%.

    In addition to actually fighting the fire itself, our local fire team and auxiliary members drove the fire lines to hand out local area maps as well as to provide knowledge about the terrain and weather patterns to all of the firefighters from around the state. Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire and Rescue also provided food and drinks to many of the firefighters and law enforcement personnel that were busy protecting your homes.
