Station Manager: Dick McDermott

McDermott Station is the "new" Bonny Doon Fire Station, and is located at the intersection of Empire Grade, Ice Cream Grade and Felton-Empire Road. This station is designed to house three vehicles, and act as a disaster center for the Bonny Doon area. Empire Tile Works created a spectacular relief map of Bonny Doon for the front of the building.

Assigned Apparatus

McDermott Station is home to Engine 3222, Rescue 3262, and Water Tender 3252.

Station Facilities

McDermott Station is new the haeadquarters for Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire/Rescue, Inc. and is where the monthly board meetings are held. The station has an office, a professional-style kitchen, a training/meeting room, showers, washer/dryer, and a fitness center for the firefighters. The fitness center can be dismantled in just a few hours to make room for cots or emergency communication stations, in the event of a disaster (floods, earthquakes, heavy snow, tsunamis, asteroids falling from the sky, etc.). There are three apparatus bays (garages). The main tank provides 57,000 gallons of water storage. The stations also has a fully automatic standby propane generator in case of a main-power failure.. The station has two phone lines, and Internet services are available for both wired and wireless devices.

Access to the facility is limited to firefighters, board and auxiliary members. To take a tour, please contact the station manager.

Activities

The station is a multi-faceted building. A part of the interior space is utilized as a physical fitness training area with some equipment already installed. Other space is used for meetings, team training, equipment maintenance and storage, and apparatus parking. The large front paved area is ideal for apparatus cleaning and restocking as well as fire hose testing. There is even an interior “balcony” overlooking the apparatus for those important impromptu conversation sessions.

Construction Effort

Primary construction efforts have been completed, with many thanks to Santa Cruz County taxpayers and our fabulous community donors. This really was a huge project, which required many, many people to pitch in time, money, and materials. Thanks to the support of community members and local businesses, we have a fully operational station on the eastern side of Bonny Doon, which serves as our new Headquarters. We could never have done this without your help and support. Thank you all!
